Whatup Reader!

You don’t have to wait to be happy.

We coming hot out the gates today and leading with lesson.

Last week, my brother, aka no-Instagram Justin, (he does, however, read these emails. Hi, Unca 🙋🏽‍♂️) and his girlfriend, Carly, came to visit us, and Lex and I got to show them what that SoCal life is all about.

I’ve said it probably eleventy billion times in the last few podcast episodes I’ve released, but I’m so grateful to have a space that is so conducive to hosting guests (namely that they get their own bedroom and bathroom), and I know that Lex feels the same way.

Lex and I took them to the dog beach, to the bakery, to our favorite look-out, on a bike ride along the beach, to our favorite restaurant on the pier, and to our favorite ice cream spot. We made popcorn, we grilled, we walked the dog, we rode in the Jeep with the top off (it’s always off), we had fresh fruit every breakfast, we got our groceries delivered, we had espresso, we exercised, we watched volleyball, we met up with Jill and her brothers, and we allowed our days to only be as full as we wanted them to be.

With the exception of going to the farmer’s market, every single thing that the four of us did together were things that Lex and I do on a regular basis (ok, we also don’t ride bikes like that, but we could!) and that brings me an insane amount of joy.

We’ve built and are living our best lives right now, and the fact that we get to share it with people we love is one of my favorite things.

You don’t have to wait to be happy.

You don’t have to wait until you retire. You don’t have to wait until you get whatever certification. You don’t have to wait until you’ll making a certain amount of money. You don’t have to wait until you’re a certain age.

You can literally choose your happiness right now.

And yes, absolutely, money and things can contribute to your happiness (don’t let anyone tell you otherwise). The both/and here is that you can look to find happiness in your current situation AND be working towards different things that will also bring you happiness in the future.

Either way, you don’t have to wait to be happy.

The first time I realized this was ten+ years ago when I read Tim Ferris’ book, The 4-Hour Work Week.

While I don’t agree with every part of that book, the basic premise blew my mind and literally changed me forever:

You don’t have to wait to be happy.

It’s already September 3rd, and every single one of us stays saying how quickly the days/weeks/months/years go by.

Don’t wait to be happy.

You don’t have to.

Maestro out.

PS – Don’t forget that registration for Round 16 of the Instagram Intensive opens next Monday (Sept. 9) for folks on the waitlist. Join the list and save the monies.

Do the thing.

Double shoutout to those of you who know that flux capacitors (in reference to time travel) are not actually real, but Back to the Future is still an elite movie. Moving on to today’s story, if you follow me on IG then perhaps you know I have a penchant for DIY-ing things.
